Reported Crop Circles for the State
of Georgia -
Atlanta, Fulton County (August 17, 1991)
Three weeks before the Doug Bower / Dave Chorley hoax story broke and began to get widespread worldwide media coverage, a group calling themselves the Georgia Skeptics hoaxed three circles with a rope on Presidential Parkway land near Inman Park. A 24' diameter circle, a 48' diameter circle, and a small circle with a ring were made (in about a half an hour they claimed). Eight people participated in the hoax, and attempted to con legitimate researchers into studying 'sample' plants and soil - there were no takers. Sickeningly, they planted a mutilated bird near one of the circles to create an "eerie" touch and to evoke memories of cattle mutilations, as well as leaving behind a computer circuit board in an attempt to confuse researchers. They also tried to solicit media attention through anonymous tips to the local media outlets and to the local MUFON UFO reporting hotline - but again, no takers. They did manage to get photos of their dishonorable work printed in OMNI magazine, as well as their own publication touting the hoax explanation as the answer to what creates all crop circles.
